Saturday Snapshot (on Sunday):

“Little Superheroes”

By Zara D. Garcia-Alvarez / @ZaraAlexis

To participate in the Saturday Snapshot meme post a photo that you (or a friend or family member) have taken then leave a direct link to your post. Please see the linky at AT HOME WITH BOOKS.

Photos can be old or new, and be of any subject as long as they are clean and appropriate for all eyes to see. How much detail you give in the caption is entirely up to you. Please don’t post random photos that you find online.

“Little Superheroes”

The wonderful gift of being a child is to fearlessly use and exhibit imagination. As you get a little older, your creative self is most often suppressed by the need to adhere to adult, social norms. That’s why adults tend to get such a kick from kids. They’re often brutally honest and unaware of the rich wisdom they hold from the gift of their innocence and simplicity.

And they’re the only ones who are brave enough to fully invest their faith in their imagination in the result of costumes and play without self-consciousness or the need of applause. They do it because their internal world is as rich as it is real to them—plus, the costumes look cool!

Here’s a small collection of random shots I’ve taken of my children at play in “costumes,” where their awe of “superheroes” and other favourite characters help them to believe in the great potential of their little, but fearless, and imaginative selves.

What characters did you most enjoy playing as a child?

Did you have an “imaginary friend?” growing up?

If you have children, what’s the funniest or most creative saying or costume they’ve shared with you?

Who’s your favourite superhero?
